formation of cape film location guild

Over the past few years several attempts have been made to establish a recognised body that would represent Location Scouts and Managers in the Cape area without great success.

The reason for the failed attempts is partly due to the logistical problems of getting all location professionals together in one room at one time for one meeting, as well as follow up meetings.

The Cape Film Location Guild is an initiative which will hopefully become a body that represents location professionals on all levels of decision making from within the Guild right up to local and Provincial Government. Several meetings have been held with City Authorities, Provincial Authorities as well as the CPA (Commercial Producers Association)

This site would initially serve as a discussion forum whereby suggestions would be welcomed as to how location crew would like to be represented in the filming community.

The site could serve as a notice board for problematic or no-go locations, and possible solutions to ensure that locations are not lost to the industry.

Hopefully, funding to finance an administrator who would be responsible for the website as well as entering into discussions to re-open some of the no-go locations is a possibility.

You are encouraged to participate in this guild if you feel that locations professionals should have more input into what is expected of them, how they do their job, and how this job can been improved for the better of the entire industry.

Please note that this Guild should be open to all Location Professionals’, ECO’s, Production Managers, Location Companies and other role players who could provide meaningful solutions to a problematic situation that currently exists.
